Where do the rules come from?
We use sources in this order:
- Official: the airline's own baggage or dangerous goods page, or the customs, aviation or airport security authority of the country concerned.
- Trusted third party: when the official page can't be reached or doesn't state the rule, a named source such as Wise, Kupi, a national news outlet or the International Air Transport Association (IATA). These figures are labelled as third-party on the page.
- Confirm with the airline: when neither gives a dated, checkable answer, the page says so, asks you to confirm with the airline, and is kept out of search results.
When is a page published to search engines?
- Airline pages are indexed only when the cabin bag size, the power bank rule and the liquids rule are all sourced.
- Country pages are indexed only when there is a source link and at least one alcohol or tobacco figure.
- Pages that don't meet the bar stay visible to visitors but carry a noindex tag.
How are power bank and liquids rules handled?
Where an airline publishes no stricter power bank rule, we show the international rule that applies from 27 March 2026 (ICAO Technical Instructions, as summarised by IATA) and say that the airline publishes no stricter rule we could find. Liquids limits are set by airport security in the country you leave from, so where an airline has no rule of its own we show the departure country's rule and link that authority's page.
How often is the data re-checked?
Every figure carries the date it was last checked. The most-visited pages are re-checked monthly, and any page is re-checked when a rule change is reported or announced. Fixes are recorded under our editorial and corrections policy.
What doesn't CarryOnRule cover?
Fees, fare-specific add-ons and medical or legal advice. Rules change, so check the official source before you fly.
